We decided at the last minute, on the last day of our week in Hawaii, to do the night snorkel with the mantas. Aloha Kayak company was the most reasonably priced and most intimate place we could find for a Kona Manta Ray Dive Tour.
We felt special, since it was a small group and we felt safe and taken care of. We got fitted for the wet suits and snorkel gear, was briefed on the experience, and then we met our guide down at the boat dock.
It was myself and my son who is 13. Once in the water, we paddled for about 10 minutes over to the area where the other boats were, then once we settled on one area, where we knew the mantas were hanging out, we put on our fins and jumped in the water.
Sure enough, there they were, right underneath us, just like in the video! My son got to touch one of them, he brushed right up against his leg. We hung out until the boats left, then were given the option of paddling over closer to the hotel spot light to see more manta, but it was getting chilly so we hopped back on the kayaks and paddled back to the shore.
It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, especially for my son. Loved it!
