As synonymous as the Kona Nightingales (Donkey's) are to Kona, so are the Manta.
Here on the Big Island you can experience one of the most memorable ocean activities of your life. The Big Island is one of the only places in the world that you can experience the Manta's in this most unique and safe environment. This experience has been featured in every dive and visitor publication that promotes the Kona Coast.
Let our guides take you to one of the most popular places to see the Manta in Kona.
This tour is one of our more popular amongst the adventurous visitors that visit our outfit. We offer this based on weather and water conditions.
We check you in at Keauhou Bay Boat Ramps on Kaleiopapa St. near the Keauhou Bay Sheraton Resort (78-7138 Kaleiopapa St. Kailua-Kona, HI 96704). Upon check in you will be outfitted with all the equipment that you will need to be safe for the evening. You will be given a safety and equipment orientation then the fun will begin.
Our guides will guide you with Kayaks on this Kona Manta Ray Tour along the shore to our snorkeling spot in the dark of night. It is 0.2 tenths of a mile to the southern point of Keauhou Bay. Site of the Keauhou Sheraton. You will then enter the crystal clear blue waters of the Kona Coast in 15 to 20 feet of water depending on tide level.
Upon entrance to the water you will be amazed at the unbelievable clarity of the ocean in this area. You will have the opportunity to watch the giant Manta ray's swim peacefully around you. We use powerful lights with the right spectrum to lure the Plankton towards the lights, then the Manta's come towards the light to feed on the plankton. We spend an average of 25-30 min. in the water, keep in mind that it is night and the Mantas are wild and we cannot lure them in with any more than patience and plankton. However because of us being in kayaks we have the freedom to explore and move around looking for them than a large boat that can not get close to shore, and is stuck anchored in one spot.
Tour includes:all necessary orientations, Kayak, Paddles, Life Vest, Kayak Seat, Snorkel gear set (Mask, Snorkel and Fins), Kayak Guide, All safety lights
